Washington County Health Partners, Inc. envisions a community in which
citizens of all ages are able to enjoy a life in which they know peace
of mind, body and spirit.
Washington County Health Partners, Inc. serves as a catalyst to unite
the energies of the community to improve the health status of the community
by identifying and addressing aspects of our community health and wellness
that are less than optimal, creating collaborative task forces to conduct
activities that will enhance the community health status; and encouraging
citizens to make positive decisions that lead to peace of mind, body
and spirit.
Accomplishments
- WCHP completed a county-wide community health needs
assessment and is currently developing a five-year strategic health
plan.
- WCHP was selected as the Pennsylvania Department of
Health’s Primary Contractor for Washington County’s Tobacco
Free Program.
- WCHP facilitates cooperation among the county’s
three hospitals on our Board of Directors and task forces.
- WCHP is building regional relationships to bring in
resources that would otherwise be unavailable.
- The Community
Wellness Task Force developed WellLife™, an eight-week
program to teach people to be active, eat right, and reduce stress,
and Washington Walking™, a website to support a countywide walking
program for all ages.
- The Covering
Kids and Families Task Force enrolls applicants into the
Children's Health Insurance Program and the adultBasic Health Insurance
(ABC) Program and has advocated for increased funding for ABC.
- The Minority
Health Task Force is working on developing Church Wellness
Councils, has hosted a number of cancer education and screening events,
and has presented their work at the state NAACP conference.
- The Nutrition Task
Force addresses child and adult obesity and eating disorders
through a countywide school nurse training and works with a pilot school
district to develop a Coordinated School Health Council.
- The Respiratory
Health Task Force distributed over 3,800 flu and 375 pneumonia
vaccines to individuals who would otherwise not be able to receive them.
Asthma education has become an additional focus for this group.
- The Teen Wellness
Task Force has held twelve educational events—two
for teens, two for professionals, and most recently, eight for parents
and teachers about issues facing teens. During the next two years, they
plan to hold a series of parent, professional, and teen conferences
to address the top three health issues identified by teens (sex, tobacco/drug
use, and mental health).
